Industry Night
The Materials Society and the ASM Worcester Chapter held its first Industry Night and Student Night at WPI. Twenty-two companies within Massachusetts sent representatives and displays which showed how metallurgy and materials are central to much of industry today.
First Meeting
On 27 March 2003, the first meeting of the WPI Materials Society took place in the Mid-Century Room of the Campus Center for a social luncheon. The basis of the meeting was to bring attention to the newly formed campus society and to inform students of the opportunities that are available to members of professional societies, such as, ASM International and TMS. The meeting was attended by all current members; Prof Rick Sisson, club sponsor; guest speaker, Diran Apelian; and other students that are interested in joining the WPI Materials Society. Other items discussed were the executive board meeting on April 2nd, and a networking dinner with a guest speaker on April 16th at O'Conners in West Boylston. Prof. Diran Apelian received a gift of the framing of his latest publication in the Heat Treating Progress magazine which he is featured on the cover.
