Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) Laboratory

The JEOL 100CX transmission electron microscope (TEM) is used to study a wide variety of materials including metal alloys, ceramics, and biological specimens at WPI. The TEM can operate with energy up to 100kV and several hundred thousand magnification to resolve features of interest near atomic resolution in some cases. Important crystallographic information can also be investigated using diffraction of the electron beam. A Kevex Energy Dispersive Spectroscope (EDS) allows researchers to charecterize local chemical components within the specimens.
